Fisher-Price Laugh & Learn Love to Play Puppy Reviewed

Follow along on our review of Fisher-Price’s Laugh and Learn Love to Play Puppy, a wonderful and affordable gift idea for the little one in your life. Puppy is a soft, cuddly toy who responds when your child touches with various silly sayings and sing-along songs including familiar ones like the Itsy-Bitsy Spider.

Puppy is designed to be played with while also helping your young child learn the alphabet, numbers, colors and parts of the body. You chose one of two modes: learning or musical. As a fun bonus, his dog collar lights up or twinkles to the beat of the music.

A version of this dog, with slight changes and a even a new name, has been released pretty much consistently by Fisher-Price since 2003 and buyers continue to praise the quality and educational aspects of this toy.

The Puppy I have featured at the top of this page has a purple shirt and paws that are red with a musical note, green with the word hand, yellow with the word foot and orange with the on and off button and controls for the learning or musical mode. He was made in 2008.

Wednesday Addams American Girl Doll Review

Wednesday is a popular Netflix series based on Wednesday Addams of the Addams Family. The first season, which aired in 2022, saw Wednesday, who is played by Jenna Ortega, try to solve a murder at Nevermore Academy. 

The series received positive reviews from the critic with Wikipedia saying that it was "the second most watched English Netflix series." The second season was released in 2025 and the show has since been renewed for a third season.

DOLL DESCRIPTION

The show is popular enough to have created some interesting merchandise including the American Girl doll named Wednesday who appears here on this page. The Hollywood Reporter says that the American Girl doll company has “gone goth.” For this doll, American Girl partnered with Amazon MGM Studios.

Packed in a special collector box with a certificate of authenticity, she sold for $295 U.S. According to American Girl Fandom, she was released on July 21, 2025 and sold out six days later on July 27, 2025. The limited-edition doll, with a run of 6,000 individually numbered dolls, was available on both the American Girl and the Amazon websites. 

Wednesday is like many other Truly Me American Girl dolls, measuring 18-inches with opening and closing eyes, a vinyl head and limbs and a soft body. This doll, of course, looks like the Wednesday character that many love. She has black pigtails, bangs that are called ‘curtain bangs', painted eyelashes, feathered eyebrows and freckles. Her black velvet dress has a white sateen Peter Pan-style collar and long sleeves. The dress features an embroidered pattern that looks like a floral print and has interesting black buttons. She wears black tights and panties and shiny black patent kitten-heel Mary Jane-style shoes. Her accessories include a Thing figurine, two bags of piranhas and a fake silver-colored obsidian necklace.

Better Homes and Gardens predicts that, at least in part because of the popularity of Wednesday, this Halloween will see a trend to “dark academia, gothic, Victorian, and downright spooky style and decor.” I agree and think that this doll would make a great part of anyone's Halloween decor collection. Plus, because of the fact that it is a limited-edition doll, I believe that it will increase in value in the years to come.

Vintage Play-Doh Count Creepyhead & Friends Playset Review

If you've always loved Play-Doh, monsters and/or Halloween, Kenner's Count Creepyhead and Friends Play-Doh set is one you should own. It allows you to create your favorite monster faces and includes four masks representing Dracula or a vampire, a werewolf or the wolfman, a mummy and an evil countess, villain or queen.

The set includes the figure or body, his hair, a cape and the four masks referenced above. It is recommended for individuals aged 3 and up and is marked set number 24210 with the UPC code 076281242101.

Mattel's 80th Anniversary Barbie Dolls Reviewed

Barbie dolls have always been my favorite toy and they have always been a part of my life.  As a child, I played with my Barbies.  As an adult, I collect my favorite specialty Barbies.  When I saw the 80th Anniversary Barbie Signature Doll, I knew I would want to add this gorgeous Barbie to my collection.  Seeing "80th anniversary" printed on her box caused me to pause and think though.  Barbie isn't 80!  No, she is not.  It is actually their maker, Mattel, that is celebrating their 80th year in business and they doing it in grand style with a signature edition anniversary Barbie.

While the Barbie Signature Doll may have been created with collectors in mind, there is also an much less expensive 80's anniversary Barbie for play.  I actually like both of them.  I have featured them at the bottom of this review for you to compare.  I would love to hear you thoughts.

Most of us are already familiar with Barbie's history.  The first Barbie was released and introduced to the world by Mattel in 1959.  Since then, Mattel has sold over a billion Barbie dolls.  It won't surprise you to hear that the Barbie line is the most profitable for Mattel.  She is their own private little gold mine.  After all, one can't just stop at one Barbie.  She must have everything: clothes, accessories, homes, cars, boats, camping equipment, and certainly friends.  And, let's not forget her movies.  Clearly, she is Mattel's biggest star. 

 

The 80th Anniversary Barbie

 Barbie Signature Doll, Mattel 80th Anniversary CollectibleCheck Price Red has always been a stunning color on Barbies.  Over the years, the annual Holiday Barbie has frequently been dressed in red, but this year, she wears her red for the special Mattel anniversary.  Ironically, she will be wearing gold for Christmas this year.

Take note of Barbie's earrings, shown in the picture on the right.  They prominently feature the letter "M" for Mattel in honor of the original Matty Mattel logo.  

Her fitted glittery red dress is stunningly detailed with a tulle bustle and accessorized with complimentary red sheer gloves and red pump shoes.  But, you don't need me to describe her.  You can see for yourself that she is gorgeous!

Many young children love the incredibly soft plush rabbits by Carter called 'Just One Year.' This rabbit has been produced in many styles and colors and replacements for a specific lost rabbit are somewhat hard to find. If you are one of those parents trying to replace a specific Carter's plush toy or just someone who wants to replace the one they owned when they were young, don't despair. 

You may be able to find your rabbit on eBay. The one you are looking for may not be available today and you may have to create a saved search on eBay to eventually find the one you are looking for.  If you don't know how to do that, please visit this page and look for the instructions on how to create a saved search on eBay. JUST ONE YEAR PLUSH BUNNIES ON EBAY

The most valuable Carter's Just One Year plush bunny that I have seen is this one with allover white fur and dark chocolate brown on the inside of his feet and his ears. It sold more than ten years ago in 2011 for $164.50, most likely to a desperate parent. I am sure that he fetched more than others because of the fact that he was a retired toy that was still new. However, many Carter's rabbits are available for much less than that. Snoopy and His Sopwith Camel Atlantis Toy & Hobby Plastic Model Kit Review

Imagine coming across a beloved childhood toy that is still being made, or is being made again, exactly like the original.  That happened to my husband recently when he came across the Snoopy and His Sopwith Camel Airplane model kit.  

As a child, he loved his model airplane and has happy memories of "flying" Snoopy and his Sopwith Camel around his home.  It was a pretty cool snap-together model that even a child could make, and he did.  Once it was made, the little propeller would turn with the help of a battery.  Unfortunately, he has no idea what happened to his plane.  His family moved often during his childhood.  Many of his possessions were either lost or discarded for him.

When he showed me the kit on Amazon, I promptly ordered it for him.  Little did I know that Snoopy, with the help of my husband, would literally be flying around my head in his Sopwith Camel plane when I went to bed on Valentine's Day.  Oh, and as with the original, the battery operated propeller does turn giving the model the appearance of flying.

Snoopy's eyes are raised in the while molded plastic, but they are not colored.  If you want Snoopy to have black eyes and brows, you will need to paint them on.  My husband used a black paint pen.

Sophie la Girafe Baby Teether Review

As a newish grandmother, I was recently introduced to Sophie la Girafe. I had heard of Sophie before but never seen her firsthand. Sophie is a worldwide phenomenon. She’s been carefully handmade in Paris, France since May 25, 1961, and because she is handmade, no two are exactly alike. Since the 1960s, over 70 million Sophies have been sold. That is one successful toy.

And here's a longer video, which gives a more thorough look at how the toy is made but more importantly, a very good description of how and why this toy is good for your baby. It demonstrates babies in action with the toy, exactly as I saw my grandson use her. Note that the first part of the video is not in English but the second part is.

Sophie is made from natural rubber, which is soft, flexible and lightweight and therefore feels good to handle. She is painted with food-grade paint, which is perfect for babies who are teething. I watched my six-month old grandson during his visit last week and was amazed at how much he enjoyed handling and yes, chewing on Sophie. 

Sophie’s giraffe form is perfect at providing many places for your baby to grab hold of as well as cram into his or her mouth. Think ears, legs and neck. I cannot think of another word that is better than cram because that is exactly what a baby will attempt to do with her. Better, of course, that whatever your baby is trying to put into his or her mouth is a safe item like this teether.

Sophie also emits a sound when squeezed that the company calls “a mischievous and legendary pouet." When your baby hears that sound, he knows Sophie is around.

Care is easy. Just wash Sophie with soapy water and a damp cloth. As my son learned, Sophie should not be submerged in water. The company also says not to sterilize Sophie. 

Sophie comes packed in a few different ways so you can gift something as simple as this amazing teether in the typical giraffe format or you can gift a teething ring, a double-handled cup, a plush toy, a bath time toy, a blanket or a gift set. Reviewing Two Similar Rummy-Style Card Games

Several years ago I learned a new card game called Three-Thirteen (3/13). It is played with a regular deck of cards. The rules are simple and the game is very enjoyable played with two or more players. 

The other rummy type card game I just began playing is called Five Crowns.

Three-Thirteen Basic Rules

As each round is played, each player tries to combine all the cards in their hand into one or more sets (as either 3 or more of a kind, or as a run, or a combination of both). When a player’s hand is complete, they lay down their hand and all other players get one more turn to try and improve their own hand to reduce their score.

Play begins with a three-card hand and the number of cards increases by one for each subsequent hand from 3 to 13 (kings). Designated wild cards can be used for any card when saving runs and sets. The wild cards change with each round with the jokers always being wild and each round having as its wild card the card that equals the number of cards dealt for that round (i.e., with 3 cards, 3s are wild, with 4 cards, 4s are wild, etc.)

At the end of the final round (Kings), the winner is the player with the fewest number of points. There are several variations of Three-Thirteen, as seen here in the Wikipedia article. 

Since learning to play 3/13, I have taught it to everyone in my family. So anytime I get together with siblings, children, or grandchildren, this has been our card game of choice.

Recently, I joined a card group at my apartment complex. They get together once a month to play cards and then share a meal. My first time I planned to play whatever the group had decided on, but also hoped to eventually teach them my favorite card game ~ Three-Thirteen. When I arrived for my first visit to the group, I discovered their preferred game was Five Crowns. Turns out that the rules are basically the same as my beloved game of 3/13. What fun! I learned a new game with new friends and still get to play my favorite rummy card game!

Five Crowns Basic Rules

PlayMonster Five Crowns — The Game Isn't Over Until the Kings Go Wild! — 5 Suited Rummy-Style Card Game — For Ages 8+

Five Crowns differs from playing with simply a regular deck of cards (or two decks if you have more than 3 people) in that there are five suits (your regular hearts, spades, clubs & diamonds, plus a STAR suit. 

The game consists of two 58-card decks (116 cards in all) containing the five suits, each consisting of eleven cards from the 3s to the kings. There are also six Jokers in this game, used as wild cards in each round. 

As with the game of Three-Thirteen, Five Crowns is won by the person with the lowest score at the end of play.

Summary

Whether you play Three-Thirteen or Five Crowns, these rummy-style games are quick, easy and a great deal of fun to play. If you enjoy playing cards, you will find these two games extremely pleasurable.

I have found nine fun-tastic items and they are all available through the links right here on this page.  Come with me then as we review some fantastic Lego-themed Halloween items perfect for your gift giving or home décor. 

1. CAT AND MOUSE SET

If you’d like to have an actual set of Lego for Halloween, here is one to consider. The Cat and Mouse set, set number 40570, has 328 pieces and is recommended for individuals aged 9 and up. 2. OWL SET

Another fun Halloween set is this owl set, number 40497, which includes 228 pieces and is recommended for individuals 8 and up. This guy will be over 4 ½ inches tall when you have finished building him and will be another fun addition to your Halloween décor. You will find Lego’s Halloween Owl set here on eBay.

3. PUMPKIN, SKELETON OR ZOMBIE STORAGE CONTAINER

I love these containers, which are meant for storage whether that be of Lego, of Halloween candy or of something else. They look like classic Lego mini-figure heads but are bigger. Take your pick of a pumpkin, skeleton or zombie head! Watch for them in two sizes. You can find your Lego Halloween storage containers here on Etsy. Buy more than one and you can even stack them.

4. UNISEX T-SHIRT

Boo! Fans of both the holiday and the toy will love this unisex t-shirt with it is image of Lego-style mini-figure heads and the word Boo! Your builder will have fun wearing this shirt from Brick Road and you might even love wrapping it in the coordinating wrapping paper. Available in sizes from small to 3XL, you can find this Halloween Lego tee right here on Etsy. 

5. PUMPKIN COACH OR HORSE AND CARRIAGE INSTRUCTIONS

For someone who has plenty of Lego pieces but is looking for a creative way to come up with a Halloween-themed decoration, I found these Halloween-themed patterns. The first is an elaborate pumpkin coach or horse drawn carriage. It reminds me somehow of Cinderella’s carriage but is definitely meant for Halloween. The second pattern is a skeleton-themed truck carrying a large jack-o-lantern. It is ready to haul that jack-o-lantern wherever it is needed. Bricks Boys Studio on Etsy has the instructions for downloading of both pieces so once you buy them you can download the pattern(s) and start building. 6. BUILDING BRICKS LOT 

It can be hard finding a bunch of colored building bricks in a certain color. Bricks from Colorado has created a selection of Halloween-colored Lego bricks for your building projects. You will receive half a pound of genuine Lego pieces that have been hand sorted and that include random Lego pieces in appropriate colors like dark purple, lime green, orange and gray. Bonus, they include a few spiderwebs and spiders. Your selection will not be exactly as shown here in this picture but will be similar in nature. 7. DISNEY’S JACK SKELLINGTON MINI-FIGURE

If you love Tim Burton’s Nightmare Before Christmas movie franchise, you will love this Jack Skellington mini-figure. It is from the Disney Series 2 Collectible Mini-Figure pouches, set number 71024. Each set contained one Disney minifigure. Whether you were collecting all of the pieces from that series or you just love this character in particular, you will find the Jack Skellington mini-figure here on Etsy.

8. PUMPKIN CARVING PARTY INVITATION

This card makes me wish I was having a pumpkin carving party. It’s a personalized digital download and, as such, is animated. It reveals three costumed characters carving their jack-o-lanterns. You add your party details including the date, time, location, R.S.V.P. and any extra details you want (within a st number of characters). 9. AUTUMN SCARECROW PUMPKIN PATCH BOX
